It’s clear that this collection embodies the strength of women and rallies for unity and sex appeal as well. Creative director Donatella Versace said she had been thinking about “the power of women” ahead of her Milan Fashion Week show, adding: “we need to take pride in all that we have achieved and unify in order to male a better future. It could all end tomorrow”. While she doesn’t mention US president Donald Trump it’s quite possible her latest collection is somewhat of a battle cry on behalf of women everywhere.
There is evidence throughout the whole collection that Versace is “fighting for freedom” with the words ‘Love’ and ‘Positivity’ splayed across many of the sheer t-shirt and beanies that came down the runway. The collection gave off a street wear vibe, but also showcased sheer cocktail like dresses. A colour palette of citrus yellow and electric blue served to further harness this idea of strong powerful women. Speaking of strong powerful women, Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo (pictured below; right picture) made her runway return just 5 months after giving birth. Talk about girl power!
While I love these models, it’s starting to feel like during Milan Fashion Week, it is a requirement that you have Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid walk your show. They are killing the game however to me, they are just tired. I don’t get as excited when I see them on a runway because it’s just the norm now. The industry needs to put some attention on fresh new baby supers like Dilone and Alanna Arrington.
