Personal branding requires me to find a signature image, a unique voice, and a recognisable standard that my readers can grow to recognise. How am I going to do that? Simple. By being MYSELF.
Imagine how hard it would be to build a brand around your “fake” self. Which I believe is what most people do. I would have to act a certain way, appear a certain way, and say certain things, regardless of how I actually feel about it.
Samuel Rose and “samuelrose.blog” is a reflection of who I am. I know what I believe in. I know what I stand for! I know my strengths and my weaknesses. People connect with other people. If I don’t appear to be a real person, or if it just looks like i’m faking it, how likely is it that others will trust me and what I have to say? Even if they do buy into my ‘fake’ persona for one hot minute, the slightest bit of inconsistency could prove catastrophic for my brand.
As I begin to develop my personal brand, I can only hope the right opportunities will start coming my way. While people may ‘doubt’ me or find my online/social media presence ‘annoying’, people will begin to see that I know what i’m taking about, and they’ll invite me to be a part of their stories or news pieces. However, I must not forget how important it is for me to accomplish something for MYSELF. I’m not doing it just for the following, but for myself. I will continue to talk about fashion and the role it plays in my life. I will continue to talk about my passion for travel. I will continue to be open about my shortcomings and weaknesses, making me all the more human.
Building a personal brand is first and foremost developing an understanding of your true self, and then sharing that with the world. For me that is an endless journey.
Once again, Karl Lagerfeld shows off his boundless imagination, transporting us to into a different universe for the reveal of his latest collection. Paris to be exact, quite literally.
Karl’s collection showcased the skills of the Chanel ateliers and the amazing craftspeople behind these incredible collections. The feather-makers, the embroiderers, the boot makers, the pleaters. All whose work brings Karl’s imagination and expressionist sketches to life.
Thick tweeds and a mostly dark palette; controlled compositions of feathers adorning sleeves and hems. Every look was topped off with a boater hat. Karl Lagerfeld is bringing the early 20th century hat back. The accessory was presented in a variety of tweeds, satin and leather.
Every model’s look featured an over-the-top rainbow eyeshadow, a bright and welcome contrast to the dark-hued collection. Which tied in nicely with the darker bold colour of the garments.
At the end of the show, Karl Lagerfeld received the highest honour of Paris. The city’s mayor Anne Hidalgo presented the designer with a Grand Vermeil medal, the highest distinction the city offers, for his work in the French capital.
Gigi Hadid channels her inner Barbie, stepping out to attend the launch party of her new Gigi Hadid For Vogue Eyewear Collection (June, 27, 2017).
She was spotted leaving her apartment sporting metallic pink flared trousers and matching leather biker jacket. This off-duty cool look hails from designer Krzysztof Strozyna of the clothing brand KREIST. Gigi absolutely STUNS in this bright/metallic pink biker jacket and high waisted pants!
The collection features three styles available in six different colours. Along with the aviator model shown on Hadid, the collection also includes a pair of cat eye frames and a classic oval shape. In addition to the sunglasses, the line includes one pair of simple, classic glasses. Vogue described the collection as a take on “retro-chic shapes, luminous colours and essential details – all in the eclectic vibe of the 90’s.”
For those interested, Gigi’s collection with Vogue Eyewear is currently available for pre-order on Sunglasses Hut. The frames retail for $139.95 each.
There’s an interesting collision of cultures at play when it comes to Balmain’s spring-summer 2018 collection. Creative director Olivier tackles a western Americana theme but filters it through a French lens. The American flag dissolves into a sea of stripes and stars as the Balmain man embraces a season of predominantly black and white.
Graphic to say the least, this collection goes bold with Balmain’s signature embellishments. It features elongated tops and tees that come together with flamboyant jackets. Skinny jeans and ankle boots contribute to Balmain’s fashion-friendly uniform. There’s also a hint of fringe and a generous supply of studs which all reinforcing Olivier’s ‘Balmain Army’ appeal.
Here’s a look book containing some of my favourite pieces from the collection!
We all love a good shopping spree, and with all these mid-year sales happening, it’s the perfect time to go grab a bargain! The funds were looking good so I decided it was time to treat myself, so I grabbed my gal pal Mel and we hit the shops to do some damage!
I headed to Pacific Fair because let’s be honest, it’s the ULTIMATE shopping destination on the Gold Coast am I right? It was a perfect day to shop, the sky was grey and it was quite chilly. Anyway let’s see what I got!
My first stop was Lush Cosmetics! I LOVE this place. People who know me know that take a lot of baths (like A LOT) so I was definitely in need of a new bath bomb to try out. While I was there I also got one of their amazing face mask pots and I also decided to try out a new product called ‘Tea Tree Water’. It’s a spray that is used as a toner for oily skin like mine! I’m hoping it will Keep my skin clear and refreshed!
My next purchase is one I am pretty excited about. I LOVE shoes, and Aquila was having a sale! I am graduating from university in July and I really wanted some nice shoes to wear to my ceremony and just to have for any other special occasion of formal outing.
I found these STUNNING black leather shoes with a raw brown sole. I liked them because the different coloured sole provides a stunning contrast, making this shoe stand out from the rest. They are also very versatile as they could be paired with any suit or dress chino pant.
The shoe saga continues as I find myself in HYPE DC. I had been eyeing down a pair of woven black leather shoes for a while and I just about had a heart attack when I discovered these were on sale! So I snatched them up for a huge bargain!
A casual silhouette with an intricately woven leather upper, low cut collar and slim sole. The striking detail and soft materials of this shoe make it a smart addition to my summer wardrobe.
A successful day of shopping if I do say so myself!
This beauty hardly needs an introduction. She has dominated the catwalks, and appeared in every major magazine from ELLE to W Magazine and of course, Vogue. The fashion spotlight has certainly had its’ focus on Soo Joo Park.
Soo Joo Park (28) is a well-known model who made her modelling debut back in 2013. Soo Joo was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up there until she was 10. Her family then moved to California. Interestingly, modelling was an accidental career for Park. She studied architecture and shortly after graduating, was scouted to start modelling. Living in San Francisco, she had a full-time job doing graphic design for a start-up web company. One fateful weekend, she was shopping in a vintage store and was discovered, being asked if she was interested in modelling, her answer: sure, why not?
Soo Joo’s career took off after she met renowned stylist Carine Roitfeld and shot her for her CR Fashion Book. She was then recommended to designers among the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Tom Ford. After her encounter with Lagerfeld, it wasn’t long before she was walking the Chanel Spring 2013 Haute Couture show at the Grand Palais in Paris. It proved to be the turning point in her career as she walked for everyone from Fendi to Lanvin since.
In an interview, Park discussed how she doesn’t see herself as an Asian model and that part of the reason she bleached her hair was so that wouldn’t be type-casted as an Asian model by the industry or designers. She is still an unmistakeable presence in the fashion industry and will continue to be with her eclectic personality. Soo Joo has a cool, 80’s, rebellious style and a VERYaddictive Instagram feed! You can follow her via her social media below!
