Raf Simons returns with another incredible ready-to-wear collection for Clavin Klein, “American horror, American dreams,” Simons elaborated. Film and TV being the major inspiration for this collection!
Having just hit the age minimum (16!) to walk the runway at New York Fashion Week, fashion’s newest It-girl, Kaia Gerber made her catwalk debut during Raf Simon’s spring/summer ’18 show for Calvin Klein. Despite her age, Kaia looked calm and confident gracing the catwalk for the first time, successfully carrying on the legacy of her supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford.
And just like that … it’s NEW YORK FASHION WEEK! We’re back baby! Tom Ford knows how to make an entrance. At his return to New York Fashion Week, the designer transformed the Park Avenue Armory into a luxurious space to showcase his glamorous, sharp, and sexy Spring 2018 collection. There was a star studded front row of celebrities and models among the likes of Kim Kardashian, Doutzen Kroes, Cindy Crawford, Gwendoline Christie, Naomi Campbell and Cardi B.
Binx Walton gave the all important first AND last impression … The American model got the top honour of both opening and closing Tom Ford’s show this season. At the start, she emerged to the tune of David Bowie’s “Fame” in a golden shorts-suit with a chain mail top and pink stilettos, and she closed the show in a languid gown with sequin sleeves.
The clear feel of the collection was return to glamour, meets the 90’s. Ford’s jackets were confident, expertly cut and paired with a plunge-front or backless jumpsuits. This season recaptured 90’s glam with the hip-flashing maillots he paired with low-slung pants. Cut-out jersey column dress and crystalized T-shirts stood out to me in the collection. There was day-wear and evening-wear, making it a very versatile collection. Check out some of the looks below!!

Halima Aden is changing the fashion game being the first Muslim model to wear a Hijab down the runway during Milan Fashion Week!
As time goes on, little by little, the fashion industry has progressed when it comes to featuring men and women of different races on the runway and in editorial campaigns. supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks paved the way for women of colour in fashion, while Chinese supermodel Liu Wen paved the way for asian models. Now the likes of debutant model Halima Aden (19) is quite potentially paving the way for muslim women in fashion.
Halima walked in Kayne West’s Yeezy runway show wearing her hijab, and became one of the most talked about new faces. In an interview with Vogue.com she states “My goal is to send a message to Muslim women and young women everywhere that it’s okay to break stereotypes and be yourself,” she says. “Always stay true to who you are—barriers can and will be broken!” Halima continued to talk about how she has found a way to respect both her values and her desire for creative expression. She also said in the interview that the industry has been “so welcoming and accepting,” which warms my heart!
With her first runway show under her belt she is on her way to success. She made her Milan Fashion Week Debut walking in the Max Mara runway show (pictured above leading the finale) and has already been shot by renowned fashion photographer Mario Sorentti. “I must say, It’s pretty impressive to have your first ever editorial shot by one of the most iconic fashion photographers in the industry,” she says.
I wish nothing but the best for Halima, and I have no doubt she will change the game. Like she said, we all need to stay true to ourselves and who we are. It’s a message I most definitely try to live by day to day and all of you reading should as well!
Take a look at Jeremy Scott’s NYFW AW17 Collection! It’s sure to bring out your inner child!
It’s that time of year again where designers and models alike endure in a crazy week of absolute fashion madness otherwise known as New York Fashion Week (NYFW for short). What is NYFW you may ask? NYFW is a semi-annual series of events that take place in February and September of each year where international fashion designers showcase their collections to the public, press and most importantly the buyers! NYFW is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, alongside London, Milan and Paris.
I’d like to start my series of NYFW blogs with one of my favourite designers, Jeremy Scott. He is an American designer and the creative director of the fashion house ‘Moschino’. His collections are always very colourful and eclectic and he is known as fashion’s equivalent of Andy Warhol! Every piece he makes is an impactful piece which I feel most times tends to bring out the inner child in all of us! This A/W (Autumn/Winter) ready to wear collection features lots of bright reds, pinks, purples and blues and well as lots of gold embellishments. The collections gives off somewhat of a 70’s meets cartoon world paying tribute to American culture. Feather trimmed jackets and velvet suits are a common theme throughout the show as well as embroidered leather jackets, slip dresses, t-shirts and very sparkly shoes. Artistic direction is evident throughout the collection with various headpieces incorporated into the collection as well as custom Jeremy Scott old-fashioned lunch boxes. In full Jeremy Scott style, this show is a spectacular that meets halfway between art and humour. Provided below is a link to the full show!
