Staying Motivated When Things Aren’t Going Your Way

Trying to stay motivated when things aren’t going quite the way you planned is quite difficult! Let me re-phrase that, it’s super fucking hard. Problems and heartaches in life are inevitable, It’s natural to get overwhelmed by our struggles and when things aren’t going our way, most of us, me included, have a tendency to complain. In my experience complaining rarely does much to improve the situation and can often make matters worse. You know what it’s like, it’s so tiresome to provide support to someone who shares their problems with you constantly. So I try not to be that person …  A way to combat this feeling is to find the strength to stay positive. I always try to laugh even when it’s hard to. I spend time with other people as much as I can and refrain myself from isolation. I like to give myself space and time to re-energize (I can’t stress how important this is for me).

A way I’ve been trying to combat all this feeling of hopelessness is looking back on my life and some of the things I’ve done and achieved so far and dwell on the good things in my life at this moment and list a good 5 things out. Sounds silly, but I read it actually makes you so much more grateful for the life you have had so far.

  1. I have a wonderful family, I believe I had the best upbringing. My parents are so loving and supportive of me and everything I’ve ever done. Im very close with all my relatives and they give me constant love and support.
  2. I had the opportunity to work for one of the largest most successful companies in the world for 6 months overseas. It resulted in many life lessons, personal growth and life long friendships
  3. I have had the opportunity to travel and see lots of amazing places
  4. I got to live in the Texas for 6 years with my family and attend school there
  5. I have wonderful friends, close or distant, I love them all

Every struggle we encounter is a step forward; it’s all part of life’s journey, giving us the opportunity to learn about ourselves. The way in which we are able to handle what life throws at us, defines our future and who we will become.

Shop Till I Drop

We all love a good shopping spree, and with all these mid-year sales happening, it’s the perfect time to go grab a bargain! The funds were looking good so I decided it was time to treat myself, so I grabbed my gal pal Mel and we hit the shops to do some damage!

I headed to Pacific Fair because let’s be honest, it’s the ULTIMATE shopping destination on the Gold Coast am I right? It was a perfect day to shop, the sky was grey and it was quite chilly. Anyway let’s see what I got!

My first stop was Lush Cosmetics! I LOVE this place. People who know me know that take a lot of baths (like A LOT) so I was definitely in need of a new bath bomb to try out. While I was there I also got one of their amazing face mask pots and I also decided to try out a new product called ‘Tea Tree Water’. It’s a spray that is used as a toner for oily skin like mine! I’m hoping it will Keep my skin clear and refreshed!

My next purchase is one I am pretty excited about. I LOVE shoes, and Aquila was having a sale! I am graduating from university in July and I really wanted some nice shoes to wear to my ceremony and just to have for any other special occasion of formal outing.

I found these STUNNING black leather shoes with a raw brown sole. I liked them because the different coloured sole provides a stunning contrast, making this shoe stand out from the rest. They are also very versatile as they could be paired with any suit or dress chino pant.

The shoe saga continues as I find myself in HYPE DC. I had been eyeing down a pair of woven black leather shoes for a while and I just about had a heart attack when I discovered these were on sale! So I snatched them up for a huge bargain!

A casual silhouette with an intricately woven leather upper, low cut collar and slim sole. The striking detail and soft materials of this shoe make it a smart addition to my summer wardrobe.

A successful day of shopping if I do say so myself!

Finding Your Personal Style

I was never really into fashion growing up, but as time went on I started to learn that your style quite easily becomes an identity and a perfect means for you to express yourself. I myself am still trying to find my personal style, for me and it’s mainly trial and error. I will see something I love online, then I will go try it on in store and I either LOVE it or HATE it (or I can’t afford it). That’s just the fun of fashion, finding things that work for you and ruling out those pieces that don’t. Finding and refining your personal style can be a real struggle. We’ve all been there at multiple times, as we look into our closet full of clothes and need something, yet we cannot seem to find something to wear. The STRUGGLE is REAL right?

So why is style important? Let me tell you! The impact of personal style goes far beyond making a good first impression; great style is also about approaching each day with confidence, and the ability to feel FAB in what you are wearing. Believe it or not, the right wardrobe can make a difference in that department. I’m going to share with you a few tips on how to get started in the ‘Personal Style’ department! You’re probably asking yourself “Why take fashion advice from Samuel, he is not a designer/celebrity stylist!” This is all true but I definitely I think I have the base knowledge to help someone kickstart their personal style, TRUST in ME!!!

Firstly, It’s important to get some inspiration!georgia-fowler-fashion-week-style-3.jpgGet out those VOGUE magazines, open up Instagram, look at what your favourite bloggers and celebrities are wearing. Create a vision board of all the things that you like and which you feel you identify with most! This is a great way to create a foundation for your personal style! But make sure you do your research and even try things on in person before making any big purchases, clothing pieces can vary in appearance!

Next, It’s important that clean up and clean out!organize.jpgThe best way to do this is to take a good, long look at your closet and the items of clothing you already own, and by long look I mean a day! Really think about it! You do not want to regret tossing that nice jacket or vintage jeans! Toss what you haven’t worn in the last year , but also think how these old pieces can be incorporated into your new-found personal style. Then you can start fresh and begin to rebuild and refine your wardrobe with a style that truly reflects where you are in your current life/career/situation.

We must shop SMARTER not HARDER!best-street-style-at-paris-fashion-week-springsummer-2014-17.jpgOne of the things I have recently learnt is that you don’t need astronomical amounts of money to have good style. Sure money helps, but it’s not a requirement. I was under the impression that you had to buy all the top designer brands! BUT NO! Experiment with the latest fashion trends the smart way by hunting for deals. I only ever splurge on staple pieces like leather goods, a great bag, a nice coat, etc. If you pay close attention to detail to the quality of clothing pieces you can tell which cheap clothing pieces will last and which pieces will not. Some of the cheapest clothing items I own have lasted years for!

When looking at your personal style, and what you want it be, it’s important to take your lifestyle and goals into consideration. The perfect wardrobe should not only represent your vision and creativity, but also be tailored to your lifestyle. Also, HAVE CONFIDENCE! If you have it, you can make anything look good! Finally, Trust yourself! Trust your gut, because something that makes you feel confident and fabulous will NEVER go out of style.
